Many-headed hydro, get it right this time
GoI's proposed outlay of ₹32,000 crore for new hydropower projects and enabling infrastructure, along with financial assistance to northeastern states, is part of the big push to decarbonise India's electricity system. This infusion of funds is welcome. But policy must also address the pitfalls and mistakes of past efforts to harness hydropower.
