Unilever India CEO says his successor faces rush to tap giant market

Unilever's India chief, Sanjiv Mehta, warns that competition is increasing as conglomerates like Reliance Industries and Adani Group race to expand in India's fast-growing consumer market. Global brands, including Google, Amazon, and Apple, are also investing in India. Mehta predicts that India will eventually be Unilever's biggest revenue market; their Indian turnover was €6.87bn ($7.4bn) in 2022, only behind the US's €12.1bn. Despite India's positive outlook, Unilever still faces short-term challenges such as high inflation, income disparity, and lesser demand outside cities.
