China's factory activity shrank more than expected in May, sinking Asian financial markets and intensifying the pressure on policymakers to prop up the economic recovery. The official manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) was 48.8 from 49.2 in April, below the 50-point mark separating expansion from contraction.
