Meta fined record $1.3 billion in EU over US data transfers

Facebook owner, Meta Platforms Inc, has been fined a record €1.2bn ($1.3bn) by the European Union (EU) over concerns it failed to protect personal data from the US. The Irish Data Protection Commission criticised Facebook for not addressing “the risks to the fundamental rights and freedoms” of users whose data was transferred across the Atlantic.
