Channapatna's famed toy industry hit by expressway project cries for attention ahead of Assembly polls

The newly-launched Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has negatively affected the livelihoods of artisans at Channapatna's toy industry, who largely depend on tourist trade. The employees are demanding assistance from the government, including raw materials, transportation for products and a sales platform serving the highway. With 5,000 registered artisans, the industry uses a tree called the 'Ivory Wood Tree' to create dolls and toys predominantly sold to tourists.
