Interim relief to Chanda Kochhar would cause irreparable damage to ICICI Bank, says HC; dismisses plea for post-retirement benefits

Former ICICI CEO, Chanda Kochhar, has had her interim application dismissed by the Bombay High Court seeking post-retirement benefits. The court noted that granting the relief requested would cause "irreparable harm and prejudice" to ICICI Bank, as it could result in the bank having to recover shares from Kochhar and/or its monetary equivalent. Kochhar had challenged a previous dismissal by a single bench of the high court, which had also directed her not to deal with the 6.90 lakh ICICI shares that she had acquired in 2018. The bank had initiated an inquiry into Kochhar in 2018 following a complaint regarding her alleged role in granting out of turn loans worth INR 3,250 crores to the Videocon Group, which benefitted her husband.
