Sebi bars brokers from pledging clients' funds with banks for excessive leverage

Currently, brokers pledge clients' funds with banks, which in turn issue bank guarantees to clear corporations for higher amounts. The regulator said this implicit leverage exposes the market and especially the clients' funds to risks.
