US weekly jobless claims fall; layoffs jump in March
US jobless claims fell to a seasonally adjusted 228,000 for the week ended 1 April, down 18,000 from the previous week, significantly beating economist expectations of 200,000 claims, according to the Labor Department. Meanwhile, claims for the previous week were revised upwards by 48,000 to 243,000.
