No plans to stop use of nuclear power, says Indian government

The Indian government plans to continue using nuclear energy instead of shifting to conventional energy sources. It has authorized the construction of 10 atomic power reactors by 2031 at a cost of INR 1.05 lakh crore. The reactors will include 10 indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors of 700 MW each, to be progressively built through 2031. Two reactors each will be constructed at Kaiga, Gorakhpur, and Chutka, while four will be erected at Mahi Banswara, Singh said. The move aims to modify the Atomic Energy Act of 2015 to allow for the Joint Ventures of NPCIL and Public Sector Enterprises to develop nuclear power projects.
