Inflation trajectory isn’t the pole star guiding India’s future rate actions

The RBI has increased its lending rate by around 250 bps since May last year in a bid to cool prices. Another 25 bps hike will take the borrowing costs to a seven-year high. Some analysts expect inflation to ease going ahead largely due to base effect, but they are divided on whether that will prompt the domestic rate-setting panel to pause the rate increase cycle.
