China, figures show, has registered an impressive improvement in child mortality rates. Under-5 mortality in China is now comparable to that of the US. The country has reduced the infant mortality rate from 43 to 5 per 1,000 live births over the 10-year period of 1991-2021, an improvement of nearly 90%.
