Fil-Am women playwrights reap top awards

NEW YORK --- Three Filipino American women playwrights have won top awards for their respective works.   Lily Padilla won the 2019 Yale Drama Series Prize for her play "How to Defend Yourself." The award includes $10,000, publication of the play by Yale University Press and a staged reading of the play.   The play is about a university sorority that starts a self-defense class in response to a series of campus rapes.   The award is given out annually by the David Charles Horn Foundation in an international competition for emerging playwrights where all entries are read blindly.
