Bengaluru: Absconding rowdy held four years after murder

Bengaluru: A rowdy sheeter, who was accused in the murder of another rowdy sheeter of a rival gang more than four years ago, has finally been arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on Monday.

While his associates involved in the murder of Shivakumar alias Rudra in 2012 were arrested long ago, Gautham alias Gubendra (27) was absconding.

Based on a tip of, the rowdy was arrested from Hosur bus stand. He was also involved in various other criminal cases including attempt to murders, robberies, and extortions.

In 2013, Gautham had assaulted and extorted money from a police officer at a gunpoint. He was a history sheeter at the Silver Jubilee Park police station.

Long running gang rivalryIt all started in 2005. According to police, Shivakumar's gang and one Velu's gang had a stand-off. In the same year, Shivkumar murdered Subramanya, a family member of Velu.

As revenge, Velu and his associates killed Shivakumar's elder brother Ashwath Narayana, when Shivkumar was in jail.

After coming out of jail, Shivakumar attacked and brutally killed a retired Superintendent of Police Vigilance K.S. Thammaiah in 2009 in Yelahanka and in 2011, he murdered his long-time enemy Velu to avenge his brother's death.

In 2012, Velu's relatives Shanmuga, Ranjitha, and Gautham, with the help of rowdy Silent Sunil and Market Vedi, hatched a plan to kill Shivakumar.

On December 9, 2012, the gang hacked Shivakumar to death near Electronics City and fled. While Shanmuga, Ranjitha, Sunil, and Vedi were arrested earlier, Gautham eluded police dragnet. After his arrest on Monday, he was produced before a magistrate on the same day and remanded in judicial custody.
