After a wild swing, P C Mohan survives

Bengaluru: The results oscillated between two extremes at Chamarajanagara and Bengaluru Central constituencies, but finally favoured the BJP. While in Chamarajanagar, party candidate V. Srinivas Prasad won, in Bengaluru Central, P.C. Mohan managed to win it for the third consecutive term. He got 50.1 per cent of the total votes polled.

Mr Mohan managed to win by overcoming the challenge of Muslim-Christian combine which dominates at least two Assembly constituencies, Chamarajpet and Sarvajnanagar.

Mr Mohan's victory margin came down from 1,10,000 to 68,000 this time. At one point, Congress' Rizwan Arshad was leading by over 38,000 votes. Three of the eight assembly segments, Mahadevapura and Rajaji Nagar and C.V. Raman Nagar that fall under Bengaluru Central, are with the BJP. Mahadevapura contributed over 70,000 lead followed Rajaji Nagar which contributed over 40,000 votes. C.V. Raman Nagar too contributed over 12,000 votes which together bailed Mr Mohan out of the deficit and gave him a lead of over 68,000 votes to romp home.

Mr Prakash Raj, an independent candidate, who polled over 29,000 votes, might have taken away a small chunk of Mr Mohan's votes.
