Vijay Kumar’s film Uriyadi, which directed and produced besides playing the lead role, released in 2016 to high critical acclaim and lauded as one of the best political thrillers in Tamil cinema. Now Vijay is ready with its sequel titled Uriyadi 2.
The film deals with caste politics and the sequel is not exactly a continuation of the original, Vijay says. “I am touching upon caste discrimination and how politicians use caste for their own gains and have attempted to give a solution to these issues.”
On how actor Suriya came on board and agreed to bankroll the film in his home banner 2D Entertainment, he says, “After initially narrating the first version to producer Rajshekar of 2D, I was given an opportunity to meet Suriya sir. I narrated an enhanced version of the script to him, which he instantly liked and asked me a few queries. Impressed he said, ‘Let’s work together’. It was a big relief for me as I had terrible time releasing my first part. More than monetary losses, I was hurt in many ways. Now, with the association of a big banner, I can be secure.”
Govind Vasantha who garnered lot of praise for the recent Vijay Sethupathi-Trisha starrer 96 has been roped in for music.
